"My artistic motivation comes from subjects that I have personally been a part of or subjected to - specifically ranch&rodeo, wildlife and marine&landscape - having owned and operated a salmon fishing lodge off British Columbia's beautiful mountain-studded coastline for many years as well as being an assistant big game guide in British Columbia's Rocky Mountains. I have also drawn a great deal of inspiration from being involved in cowboying ventures and ranch associations. That background alone would be enough to fill ones subject search, however lately I have broadened my subject matter to include miscellaneous.
Some years ago I was fortunate to become a close friend with artist Keith C. Smith. Shortly thereafter he became my mentor and artistic guide. Unfortunately Keith is no longer in our realm, but his guidance and endless good karma will forever remain.
In my studio I will work on four to five artworks at any given time - usually all in various stages of completion and subject matter. I believe that my true understanding of artistic self-expression comes best with past personal experience, coupled with composition, subject and color. This provides me with the realistic appearance which I strive to attain in my art."
